Short Bio

Tamami Maitland is a singer-songwriter/Jazz pianist based in Vancouver BC. Canada. So far she has released 20 singles and one album, and more to come in the next year.  Growing up in Japan, she was influenced by music by Studio Ghibli, Japanese culture and poetry. The lyrics of her original songs are often related to nature, the seasons and love, just like traditional Japanese poetry.  With an extensive Jazz education received from Berklee College of Music (MA, USA) and Capilano University (BC, Canada), she developed her own style of music which is interspersed across several genres of jazz, pop, R&B and soul. The sound of her music can be described as soothing, groovy, melodic, and rich in harmony. She is currently planning a Japan Tour in the spring 2023.

Japan Tour

One of my goals of writing and performing music is to connect with people through music. After the long difficult time we all went through with the world pandemic, I’m convinced more than ever that it’s time to do what I wanted to do for a long time: to travel back to Japan and perform. With Danny, we’re making a documentary film of the whole process from the planning stage until the completion of the tour, because we believe that the road itself to the destination is as important and meaningful as the destination itself. We hope to meet many people and get inspired, and grow together through this journey.

In this Video : Part 6 of Japan Jazz Tour 2023 YouTube @advisordanny,  I talk about how I wrote two of my songs "Sky Canvas" and "Orange Sky Island"

Interview

I spent wonderful afternoon with Advisor Danny who interviewed me last week! We talked about where I came from, what inspires me to write/play music, such as Forest Bathing while we walked around Deer Lake in Burnaby BC Canada. There were some charming surprises during the walk. Although it was my first time doing this kind of interview on camera,Danny made me feel very comfortable with his professional way and some laughter. I really enjoyed it and appreciate this opportunity. Thank you very much Danny!
